I love theatre that provokes, questions and imaginatively explores the human experience.
The stage can take you anywhere.
I’ve come to playwrighting from directing (training at University of Kent and Rose Bruford College) and even when directing I rarely just directed a play. I would often re-arrange the text where I could or design the show as well or when adapting a story for a workshop with children, I’d ensure their own imaginations were incorporated into the work. I was assistant and then associate director at Apocryphal Theatre where the line between director, creator and performer blurred as we used a range of improvisational techniques, creating a new play every night or testing out ideas in our laboratory. All this means that I have a true grasp of the stage and what’s possible.
Audience members have described my writing as surreal, lyrical, brave, beautiful and magic realist in style. I like to take the audience on an adventure delving into complex stories, treating them in an imaginative way.
My plays have been performed at New Diorama Theatre, King’s Head Theatre, Theatre503, Omnibus Theatre, Brockley Jack Studio Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre and The Actor’s Temple, London. My play The Future is Mine was shortlisted for the Introduce Yourself Festival at Finborough Theatre in 2018. Come and see my work and you’ll understand what I mean.
My plays The Last Request and The Birdcatcher were published in BRAND Literary Magazine. My flash fiction Traitor was published on storieswithpictures.org and in the Bashley Village Newsletter.
